Our Process

Most legal problems do not arrive one at a time. A family, a business, a piece of property, and a plan for the future are connected, and a decision in one corner moves the others. We are built around that reality. We serve as coordinated private-client counsel for Ohio business owners, professionals, and families: one relationship for the legal life of your family and your life’s work.

A client beginning a planning conversation with Rhodium Law

This page explains how that relationship works, from the first conversation through the years that follow. The method has a name, Strategize · Secure · Shine, and it describes a simple idea. Understand the whole picture first, put the right structure in place, and then hand your attention back to the life and the work that matter to you.

What is coordinated private-client counsel?

Coordinated private-client counsel is a relationship-centered way of practicing law in which one firm understands your family, your assets, your business, your property, and your advisers together, then keeps those legal pieces working as one plan. We connect estate planning, business law, elder law, and asset protection so that decisions reinforce rather than conflict.

The alternative is more familiar. A will is drafted in one office, a company is formed in another, a rental property is titled by whoever handled the closing, and an insurance policy names a beneficiary no one has looked at in years. Each document is fine on its own. Together they can pull against each other, and the gaps only surface at the worst moment. Coordinated counsel exists to close those gaps before they open.

How does Rhodium Law understand your whole picture? (Strategize)

We begin by understanding people, responsibilities, assets, work, risks, and the future you want, before choosing any legal tool. This is the Strategize step. We learn who depends on you, what you are building, what could threaten it, and where you want it all to go, so that the plan fits your life rather than a template.

In practice, we ask unhurried questions. Who is in the family, and who carries responsibility for whom. What the business is, how it is owned, and who would run it if you could not. What property you hold and how it is titled. Which advisers already sit around your table, and what has already been put in place. Strategy comes before drafting because the tools only work when they answer the right questions.

We treat this as counsel, not intake. The goal is judgment and direction, a clear read of what your situation actually needs, so that every later document has a reason to exist and a job to do.

How does Rhodium Law put the structure in place? (Secure)

In the Secure step, we put the documents, entities, ownership, agreements, and protections in place and coordinate their implementation. We do not stop at signing. It confirms that trusts are funded, that entities are formed and maintained, that titles and beneficiary designations match the plan, and that each piece supports the others.

Implementation is where many plans quietly fail. A trust that is never funded controls nothing. An operating agreement that contradicts a will creates a dispute waiting to happen. We coordinate the details so the structure holds under pressure and, when relevant and authorized, work directly with your certified public accountant, financial adviser, insurance professional, and care professionals so that the legal work and the financial, tax, and care picture move in the same direction.

Coordination here is deliberate. We align your legal documents with the people already advising you, so that no adviser is working from an outdated copy of the plan.

How does Rhodium Law return your attention to living and building? (Shine)

In the Shine step, we return your attention to living and building, with a relationship in place for what comes next. Once the structure is sound, you should be able to lead your business, raise your family, and care for the people you love without carrying the legal weight yourself. That is the point of the work.

Shine is not a promise that nothing will change. Lives, families, and businesses keep moving. It is the confidence of knowing the plan reflects your situation today and that counsel who already knows your whole picture is in place for the next decision, the next matter, and the next season, without you having to start over with a stranger.

What does coordinated counsel look like in practice?

Consider an Ohio business owner preparing to sell the company. On the surface it is one transaction. In reality it touches many parts of the owner’s legal life at once, and a firm working on only one piece can leave the others exposed.

  • The sale itself. The deal structure, the purchase agreement, and the terms of the transfer.
  • Tax. How the sale is structured has real tax consequences, so we coordinate with the owner’s accountant so the legal terms and the tax plan agree.
  • Estate planning. A liquidity event changes the estate. The plan that fit a closely held business may not fit a bank account, so the estate documents are revisited.
  • Asset protection. Proceeds that used to be tied up in an operating company are suddenly exposed, and may need new structures to protect them.
  • Insurance. Coverage that made sense for an operating business may be wrong for the owner’s new situation, so we coordinate with the insurance professional.
  • Succession and people. Employees, partners, and family members who depend on the business need their positions addressed.
  • The property. The building the business occupies is often owned separately, and its lease, title, and future use have to be handled alongside the sale.

One firm holding all of these threads sees how a change in the deal structure ripples into the estate plan and the tax result. That is coordinated counsel: the same relationship, connecting the pieces, so the owner makes one set of decisions instead of six disconnected ones.

What can you expect when working with Rhodium Law?

You can expect an unhurried, relationship-first engagement that moves in a clear arc: a brief fit conversation, a substantive consultation when the matter calls for one, a strategy phase to understand your situation, an implementation phase to put the structure in place, and a defined relationship for what comes next. We pace the work to your life, not to a volume calendar.

The arc, step by step:

  1. A complimentary 15-minute Strategy Session. Handled by Intake Services, this is a brief conversation about your situation and the right next step. It is a fit conversation, not legal advice, and its job is to learn your season, what you are protecting, and whether we are the right counsel for what comes next.
  2. A substantive consultation when appropriate. When legal analysis is the appropriate next step, we may recommend a paid substantive consultation tailored to the matter. That conversation allows our firm and the client to examine the relevant facts, responsibilities, and potential scope of counsel before moving forward.
  3. Engagement and strategy. When our firm and client decide to move forward, we engage and move into the Strategize work described above, learning the whole picture before recommending tools.
  4. Implementation. We draft, form, fund, title, and coordinate, and confirm the pieces work together.
  5. A relationship for what follows. The engagement includes a first annual review, and we remain available for future matters as your family and your work change.

The consultation name varies by practice: a Vision Meeting for estate planning, Stewardship Session for elder law, Estate Briefing for estate or trust administration, Clarity Session for business law, or Cornerstone Call for real estate law.

Throughout, we aim to make sophisticated counsel legible and calm. Fewer handoffs, founder-level judgment, and a firm that already knows your file are the boutique advantages the relationship is built to deliver.

How does Rhodium Law stay connected as life changes?

We stay connected through defined channels rather than open-ended monitoring. Your engagement includes a first annual review of your plan. Beyond that, continuity comes through the Legacy Club, an optional paid continuity membership, through recurring business and transactional matters, and through future engagements when a new need arises.

To be precise about what this is and is not: We do not promise continuous monitoring of your affairs or unlimited access between engagements. What we offer is a relationship you can return to, with counsel who already knows your history, so that the next matter begins with context instead of a blank page. When something changes, a sale, a birth, a move, a diagnosis, a new venture, you have a firm to call that does not need to relearn your life.

Common questions
What makes coordinated counsel different from hiring separate lawyers?

Separate lawyers each solve the matter in front of them and rarely see the others. Coordinated counsel means one firm holds your whole picture, so your estate plan, business, property, and protections are designed to work together. We connect the pieces and coordinate with your other advisers when relevant and authorized.

Do I have to bring every legal need to Rhodium Law at once?

No. Many clients enter through a single matter, often estate planning or elder law, then return as new needs arise. We are built to be a point of continuity over time. You can start with the matter in front of you and add others when your family, business, or property calls for it.

Will Rhodium Law work with my accountant, financial adviser, and insurance professional?

Yes, when it is relevant and you authorize it. We coordinate directly with your certified public accountant, financial adviser, insurance professional, and care professionals so the legal work aligns with the tax, financial, and care picture. Coordination keeps every adviser working from the same current plan.

What happens at the complimentary 15-minute Strategy Session?

Intake Services learns your situation, explains how we work, and identifies the right next step. It is a brief fit conversation about the people and work you are protecting, not legal advice and not a lawyer meeting. If we are a good fit, Intake Services helps you schedule the next step.

Does working with Rhodium Law mean ongoing legal monitoring?

No. Your engagement includes a first annual review. Continued connection happens through the Legacy Club membership, recurring or transactional matters, and future engagements. We do not promise continuous monitoring or unlimited access between matters. It offers a relationship you can return to, with your history already known.

How do I know if my situation is complex enough for coordinated counsel?

Fit is defined by complexity and responsibility, not a net-worth number. If you have a family and something you are responsible for building, protecting, or carrying forward, and the pieces have started to interact, coordinated counsel is likely a fit. The Strategy Session exists to answer this question with you.
